The White Temple (official name Wat Rong Khun) is situated just outside Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand. The beautiful, intricately designed temple is actually a work of art created privately by a local artist called Chalermchai Khositpipat.
This is in no way a conventional temple. There are demon heads scattered around the outskirts of the temple, a bridge passing over hundreds of hands reaching up from the ground and the walls inside are painted with pictures of cartoon characters and scenes of the twin towers falling. I had no idea what was going on. But since have read that the passing of the bridge symbolises the crossing over into the land of the Buddha and giving up of human passions (represented by the demon heads on the outskirts).
